From Grimm to Disney, when I think about this phase, I think about the dark times, the true original story that has become fabricated. When I first read about this course I became intrigued. I never questioned the original stories of Disney fairy tales, because I never knew that there was a whole different side to each story. 
 
This course became an eye-opener, I wanted to learn more about the symbolism of each tale, to learn and understand where they originated from. Disney has always been number one ever since I was a little girl, and to just be able to decipher different methods and models of storytelling is fascinating to me. 

           Out of all the magical fairytales of Disney, my favorite story is Enchanted. It's not a common story everyone knows, but it highlights true love between the real world and animated storybook endings. Enchanted is a story about a fairytale princess who becomes part of the real world. Everything that she once knew no longer existed, the man she was so-called destined to marry was truly not the man for her. 




I love this fairytale because it connects the real world to the fairy tale world. The story is different yet similar to multiple other magical fairytale stories, because the princess-to-be still obtains a happy ending. It doesn't contain a traditional aspect like most Disney movies/ stories, which is another reason why I love this story. She had to adapt to a new setting and a new life.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a classic fairytale, but most people tend to only know Disney’s version of the tale. Snow White comes in a variety of versions. One of the first versions of the tale is the Brothers Grimm. Between Disney and Grimm there are many differences and similarities within the fairytales. One major difference between the two versions is how many times the queen tries to kill Snow White. In the Grimm Brothers version the queen tries to kill Snow White three times. Rapunzel" is a classic German fairy tale in the collection assembled by the Brothers Grimm, and was first published in 1812 as a children’s fairytale. As discussed in class hair in fairytales can be seen as a symbol of femininity, strength, beauty, and sexuality. In the cartoon, Rapunzel's hair is the center of attraction. She is using her hair to attract men and trap them in the tower with her. In the cartoon, we see that Rapunzel is calling out to a Knight asking him to rescue her from the tower, as he’s climbing he realizes that it would be common sense to use her own hair to rescue herself. She then whispers “dammit” as she has failed to capture another man. In both the Grimm fairy tale and Disney's contaminated version Rapunzel's hair is used to ensure that there’s no way out and only one way up.  In Disney’s “Tangled” the prince/ thief falls in love with Rapunzels almost immediately while in the cartoon version the knight is unimpressed and uninterested. Marriage or magic

Magic is a limited source that doesn’t last a lifetime, the power, doesn’t last forever. Time is the essence. In the Disney fairytale Cinderella the Fairy Godmother used her magic to create the carriage, her dress, and her shoes but gave her until 12 o’clock. At that time everything fades away and she is left back into her scrubs. Realistically speaking people often reach success through marriage more so than magic. Magic is enchantment. Something you have to believe in, to imagine. Success or riches could possibly be achieved by magic if you practice those beliefs uphold the supernatural beings. Marriage is a union between two people who love and cherish one another for the rest of their lives.
